This past week we had the pleasure of 2 of our staff members present at the ICE conference on Seesaw!
A big thank you to Kristi Walker and Ashley Cann for sharing their knowledge at this event. It was amazing to hear that they had nearly 120 teachers across the state of Illinois attend their session on Seesaw and the impact that this tool has made in teaching and learning. For those of you who are not aware ICE stands for Illinois Computer Educators and encourages all teachers to take risks in incorporating technology in the classroom, 21st century learning and much, much more! I was also lucky enough to present with Ron Sarver and a former Troy student on Coding in the Classroom as well as Troy's Coding Club. The beauty of presenting was sharing all the wonderful ideas that Troy Staff has shared with me along the way! Thank you for all you do! A big shout out to some members of the Troy staff that presented at this weekend's DeICE conference! The following presentations were put on display and the teachers did a fantastic job incorporating technology skills into curriculum & instruction. Thank you for dedicating a portion of your weekend to supporting PD with teachers on tech.
Poster Sessions:
A big thank you to Jen Lipa for providing additional PD to some of our 3rd and 4th grade ACE students. Jen has become an expert in the Green Screen Animation App which provides the ability for students to animate their green screen backgrounds. Brian Pauly's ACE students intend on using this app as a way to display their thinking on their most recent book talks. What a great connection to curriculum & tech!
So many teachers have reached out to participate in the hour of code! Look at Shelia Freese's class! They all participated and received certificates for their participation! Awesome work!
Today I spent some time researching the importance of coding in the classroom. It is unbeliable the number of students who will graduate without jobs when leaving college however there is such a significant gap in the computer science today. This is mainly because our students have not been exposed to coding skills in the classroom. Learn all about the importance and how you can incorpate code in the classroom! Watch how code can impact your students futures below! Nearpod Certified Educators in our DistrictDid you know that two of our very own are Nearpod certified educators! Ashley Fisher 6th Grade Teacher & Anne Kasa, HT Instructional Coach have been notified by Nearpod that they are certified educators and have received a reward for this. What does this mean?
Nearpod Certified Educators Innovative Educator who are comfortable integrating technology into their teaching practices. These teachers start with your the learning target and use technology as a tool to present information to students. Receive product updates, a direct line to the Nearpod team, and connections to innovative educators from around the world. This is a great way to create, share and establish a well rounded PLN to Nearpod educators who use technology to enhance teaching and learning. Here is a recent video that I made that shows how to get started using Seesaw in the classroom! I highly recommend using QR codes for younger students to make it super easy to log in to their digital portfolio! #troylearnsWelcome to the first blog post of the school year!
